SEGERA WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY

Segera Retreat is a splash of green in a golden savannah. With a legacy of true Kenyan ranch life set against the filmic grasslands that landscape the foothills of  Mount Kenya, Segera has been rejuvenated into a fertile home for conservation, community, culture and commerce. Behind a living cactus boma, the lush gardens flicker with sunbirds and inspire with sculptures, pools and elegant thatched villas.

Segera emits creative energy and the kind of hospitality you find with favourite friends. It is a beacon for interesting minds, mavericks, art lovers and those looking for fantastic wildlife experiences, wellness, incredible dining experiences and new ways to engage with Kenya's evolving culture. Segera's exclusively private 50 000 acres are home to lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and buffalo as well as endangered species such as reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Lelwel's Hartebeest and African wild dog. You'll seek out these species along with classic plains game and up to 150 bird species on daily game drives in open-sided safari vehicles with talented guides.

MOUNT KENYA

Set off on an early morning scenic flight around the peaks of Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa. Within 40 kilometers we rise 3,000 meters, watch below as you fly through a diversity of geographical features and vegetation zones. Within the greener areas keep your eyes peeled for elephant, buffalo and a variety of plains game.

We will eventually reach the peaks, Batian and Nelion, where you will see the vast and desolate nature of Mount Kenya with its towering summit, sheer cliffs and glaciers.

Next we fly down to one of the blue mountain tarns - either Lake Michelson or Lake Alice, land for a picnic and a chance to fish for rainbow trout. A wonderful way to spend the morning in this crisp fresh air, surrounded by alpine flora. It is a helicopter excursion like no other, peaceful and remote, with the place to ourselves.

SEGERA HOUSE

Be welcomed by decorative Zanzabari doors that lead into a huge entrance hall that links three large en-suite master suites together with a double-volume shared lounge. Spilling out to a sun-kissed private pool and outdoor dining area, this generous, double-storey house has grand gestures throughout.

You'll find pops of brilliant blues, artworks, rugged textures, an elegant kitchen and daily views of giraffe strolling through the landscape. This house is perfect for friends travelling together or multi-generational family holidays.

THE SUGUTA VALLEY

The first stop is the Silale Crater, a vast caldera carpeted by grasses and shrubs, located at the southern tip of the Suguta Valley. Here we stop for a picnic breakfast before flying into the Suguta Valley.

Fly through the Hoodoo and Painted Valleys. Geologists have long been fascinated with this part of the Great Rift Valley. They have studied ancient sediments and fossil remains, and pieced together the history of a lake that rose and fell multiple times over the past 18,000 years.

Next we fly over the extensive and empty Suguta sand dunes, which add to the incredible diversity of the landscape.  Spectacular and constantly changing with strong winds, they lend themselves to a perfect helicopter landing pad. Touch down to jump down the sand dunes.

LAKE LOGIPI & LAKE TURKANA

Continuing on fly over Lake Logipi a seasonal saline lake, often full of flamingo. The lake lies at the southern end of Lake Turkana. Stretching 6 kilometers wide by 3 kilometers long, and very shallow. Finally reach Lake Turkana, the largest desert lake in the world.

KOROS CAMP & FLY CAMPING

Arrive into Koros Camp nestled away amongst acacia trees and semi arid scrubland at the northern end of the South Horr valley. Lunch under the fans of the mess, before taking a dip in the plunge pool.

Once the day begins to cool, set off on the quad bikes through dried up river beds to your fly camp for the night. You might even be lucky enough to spot an elephant or other smaller plains game on your journey.
